# Start a Legal Defense Fund to Cover Red Light Camera Tickets

PERSPECTIVE … LITE-Several years ago, we received a ticket for a red light camera violation……. and paid it.
As it turns out, we could have ignored it. [\[link\]](http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/07/la-motorists-who-paid-red-light-tickets-outraged-to-learn-they-didnt-have-to.html?lanow)
So, borrowing a page from Mayor Villaraigosa’s book, I am starting a legal defense fund to recoup the cost of the ticket.
The mayor has raised $123,500 [\[link\]](http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/08/villaraigosa-raises-123500-to-pay-fines-in-free-ticket-scandal.html#more) to pay for ethics fines and related legal costs in connection with receiving free tickets.
Our ticket was anything but free; therefore, the basis for my legal defense fund is on firmer ground.
