# Still Following the Money

RESISTANCE WATCH-The woke kids are still at it. Days before a planned [National School Walkout ](https://www.nationalschoolwalkout.net/)to mark the anniversary of the Columbine shootings, Parkland survivor and firebrand David Hogg has [suggested](https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/17/student-activist-david-hogg-calls-for-boycott-of-vanguard-and-blackrock-over-gunmaker-ownership.html) a boycott of massive money managers BlackRock and Vanguard, the biggest owners of publicly traded gun makers Sturm Ruger and American Outdoor Brands, parent company of Smith & Wesson Corp.
Citing the scale of the two asset managers' holdings - according to [Bloomberg, ](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2017-12-04/blackrock-and-vanguard-s-20-trillion-future-is-closer-than-you-think)their wealth exceeds current U.S. GDP, approaching $20 trillion - Hogg noted their ownership of gun stocks, suggested to shareholders who oppose blood-soaked investments that, "If you use them, feel free to let them know," and added the hashtags #[BoycottVanguard](https://www.commondreams.org/further/2018/04/17/%20https%3A/twitter.com/hashtag/BoycottVanguard?src=hash) and [\#BoycottBlackrock.](https://twitter.com/hashtag/BoycottBlackrock?src=hash)
Hogg posted the idea Tuesday to his over 750,000 followers on Twitter, where he launched the successful advertiser [boycott](https://twitter.com/hashtag/NationalSchoolWalkout?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rawstory.com%2F2018%2F04%2Fparkland-survivor-david-hogg-launches-boycott-two-largest-money-managers-gunmaker-investments%2F) of Fox's Laura Ingraham. (Since then, her viewership has reportedly [climbed ](https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/17/student-activist-david-hogg-calls-for-boycott-of-vanguard-and-blackrock-over-gunmaker-ownership.html)back up, though with cheaper ad rates.)
Having learned to follow the [money,](https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/AOBC/holders?p=AOBC) Hogg's [focus](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/david-hogg-boycott-blackrock-vanguard-210902961.html)on BlackRock and Vanguard is well-timed: In response to mounting pressure for Wall Street to grow a pair, [Vanguard ](https://about.vanguard.com/contact-us.html%20%20)now offers a FTSE Social Index Fund that screens companies based on social and environmental criteria, and [BlackRock ](https://www.blackrock.com/investing/resources/contact-us%20%E2%80%A6)has created two new [funds ](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/blackrock-offer-funds-exclude-stocks-151400589.html)for pensions and 401(k) plans that exclude gunmakers' stocks.
Although - or because? - Hogg's mild call for social responsibility mirrors current cultural trends, he was venomously [pilloried](https://www.commondreams.org/further/2018/04/17/%20https%3A/twitter.com/hashtag/BoycottVanguard?src=hash) as "little idiot" and "fascist bot."
"Sorry, Davey," wrote one hater, "but on Wall Street, no one can hear you scream."
Really, America?!?
