--- # Urgent: Action Alert on the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles Thursday, Feb 27 **Urgent: Action Alert on the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles** *Submitted by Barbara Broide* **Take Action:** Submit a comment to LA City Council File **15-0989-S47** here: 🔗 [Public Comment Portal](https://cityclerk.lacity.org/publiccomment/?cfnumber=15-0989-S47) ### Why This Matters The proposed City Council motion would allow **any** Olympic or Paralympic-related development—temporary or permanent—to bypass essential regulations, including: - **Environmental review (CEQA)** - **Height limits & setbacks** - **Conditional use permits** - **Site Plan Reviews** This could allow nearly any project claiming an Olympic connection to override land use rules, with little to no public oversight. ### What’s Happening Now? - The motion was briefly discussed in **City Council on 2/21/25**. - It **returns for a vote on Friday, 2/28/25**—likely with last-minute amendments that **will not** be made available for public review. - The motion is too **vague and broad**—it must be **revised** or **opposed.** ### Major Concerns - **Unchecked Development:** The motion creates a loophole for fast-tracking high-rise hotels, media centers, sports facilities, billboards, and traffic lane changes—all with no public input. - **Loss of Public Land:** Open spaces like Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area could be permanently converted to private sports facilities. - **Power to LA28 Committee:** The City’s contract with LA28 gives the private Olympic organizing committee near-total control over developments, with minimal City Council oversight. ### What Can You Do? ✅ **Submit a Public Comment**: [LA City Clerk Comment Portal](https://cityclerk.lacity.org/publiccomment/?cfnumber=15-0989-S47) ✅ **Read the Full Motion**: [City Council File](https://cityclerk.lacity.org/lacityclerkconnect/index.cfm?fa=ccfi.viewrecord&cfnumber=15-0989-S47) ✅ **Learn More**: ["The No-Plan Olympics" Article](https://horizonskyline.net/2025/02/21/the-no-plan-olympics/) 🚨 **Attend the Council Meeting**: **Friday, 2/28/25 at 10 AM** at **Van Nuys City Hall (14410 Sylvan St.)**. Los Angeles was promised a **“no-build”** Olympics. This motion undermines that commitment and opens the door to unchecked development. **Make your voice heard before it’s too late!** ## Event Information [ ![Brian Goldsmith Vertical R.
