# Are the Real Fascists the Political Leaders Who Ignore Their Own Police Unions?

ALPERN AT LARGE - Nothing to see here…move along. Crime is down. Things are great…or so the narrative is being pronounced. Not accepted…but pronounced.
It’s Trump and his ICE hordes who are to blame for the chaos caused by enforcing the law…or so we’re told, and NOT allowed to gainsay.
So…WHY did we re-elect this blowhard Trump to the White House with a majority of the popular vote if things in our cities and nation was so great without him?
WHY are so many of Europe’s governments moving towards the Orange Man in the White House, and WHY are the English, Irish, German and other people moving towards those “right wing extremist” parties?
And WHY do so many law enforcement agencies support Trump, arrogance and bloviating as he is on a regular basis?
Hard to say…but my own suspicion is that there’s a growing awareness of a collective Gaslighting Groupthink in our economic/cultural/media elites that have made it clear that it’s not you/we/us who are right-wing extremists…it’s rather the elites are so far to the left that the ordinary Joe/Jane have had it with being labeled the extremists.
The Portland police and their union do NOT want to be in the middle of a political firestorm between local Oregon/Portland leaders and President Trump…and they DO see who the troublemakers/trouble-starters are with respect to [attacks on legally-established ICE facilities](https://katu.com/news/local/portland-police-bureau-union-rep-says-officers-caught-middle-heated-political-debate-trump-administration-ice-immigration-protests-unrest-national-guard-troops).
Ditto with the Chicago situation—those entities who are much more in touch with the Chicago front-line police officers do NOT like police/political climbers [forcing this front-line to stand DOWN](https://fop.net/2025/10/national-fop-and-illinois-state-fop-condemn-reports-that-chicago-police-officers-were-barred-from-assisting-ice-agents/) when instead the front-line wants to stand UP to criminals savaging that city.
Closer to home, we’re told that Los Angeles County is considering an [emergency declaration](https://ktla.com/news/local-news/l-a-county-to-consider-emergency-declaration-due-to-ice-raids/) due to ICE raids.
But isn’t it really that the County Board of Supervisors (who are hardly in touch with the police they are supposed to command) is calling the emergency?
How many city/county police officers privately support ICE? Certainly, would not an arrangement between the county and ICE to work together to fight the Mexican Mafia and other violent gangs allow ICE to focus on the violent criminal elements Trump was elected to oppose?
Similarly, wouldn’t it hold President Trump’s feet to the fire to keep to his own campaign promises?
And as to the whole “family man/working mother” majority of those NOT HERE LEGALLY…would that problem also be corrected by an aggressive focus on finding legal sponsors for those large groups to give taxpayers a relief and allow more money to American citizens?
But…the portrayal of those enforcing the law as just a bunch of fascists is NOT a narrative that is universally believed by many (if not MOST!) Americans, and there is evidence aplenty to support it.
Thus the question must go out, and in particular to all those who privately recognize that following established laws existing in just about every other nation on Planet Earth is NOT fascist:
Is the fascism and gaslighting and cruelty coming from Washington, or to those who are disobeying federal law to support an agenda that allows slave/low-wage labor, human trafficking, a drug crisis of epic proportions, and rampant crime while demanding the taxpaying citizenry pay for it?
Because if the police and related law enforcement officers just want to do what their job descriptions tell them to do (enforce the law), is it fascist to have them do their jobs…
…or to stand down and NOT allow them to do their jobs?
