# Nithya Raman Lies, Again. LA Mayor Cannot Fire Police Chief McDonnell

THE VIEW FROM HERE - Nithya Raman knows that the LA Mayor cannot fire the chief of police, but facts mean as little to her as they do to Donald Trump.
Fact #1: the LA charter does not give the mayor the power to fire the police chief.
Fact #2: Nithya Raman knows the mayor lacks the power to fire the chief of police.
Fact 3#: She intentionally tells voters that she will fire Chief Jim McDonnell.
The LA Charter authorizes the Police Commission to vote to discharge a police chief. The mayor has no power whatsoever to initiate the firing. Does anyone who knows jack about the present Police Commission think that it will vote to fire Chief McDonnell? In fact, the present LA Police Commission strongly supports Chief Jim McDonnell. If you do not believe me, check it out for yourself. Their support is a matter of public record.
Raman cannot replace the Police Commissioners unless she proves “cause.” No one can point to anything that any member of the Police Commission has done to support a cause for firing. In response to Raman’s false charges against Chief McDonnell, the Commission strongly supports McDonnell as he rebuts Raman’s false accusations that the LAPD participates in mass deportations.
Because the police commission will not initiate a firing of Chief McDonnell and Raman cannot replace the commissioners, she could ask the city council to initiate his firing. Not a single member of the city council supports Nithya Raman for mayor. With zero support from the city council for her to be mayor, there is zero likely the city council would initiate his firing. While the DSA council members do not like Chief McDonnell, they are far from a majority and they do not support Raman.
Raman’s heaviest support comes from emotional, young, low information voters, but such voters tend not to show up to vote. Thus, Raman needs another emotional and false accusation to compel them to actually vote. For a while, the GOP slanted Spencer Pratt voters supported Raman, but that support is evaporating as they learn more about her. Her desire to fire Chief McDonnell is not shared by these voters, who want a traditional police chief who impartially enforces the law. They do not another DSA woke police chief, like former Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón. 59.9% of Los Angeles County voters rejected George Gascón for re-election, and instead elected Nathan Hochman. Except for the woke DSA element, Angelenos support District Attorney Hochman’s polices.
The idea that a majority of Angelenos want to break up Chief McDonnell and DA Hochman team is ludicrous. Similar to how Raman sought out Hasan Piker to highlight her blood libels against Israel in particular and Jews in general, Raman is counting on the progressives to believe her promise to fire Chief McDonnell.
Los Angeles faces the same problem with Nithya Raman and the DSA voters as the nation faces with Donald Trump and MAGA. Facts are whatever the base is told. If Raman says that she will fire Chief McDonnell because he cooperates with ICE, they do not care. It is a matter of loyalty to a cause.
Raman’s falsehood about Chief McDonnell makes three major prevarications for Raman. (1) the [totally repudiated claim](https://tinyurl.com/yru5uz9u) that Jews are practicing genocide in Gaza, (2) she can fire Chief McDonnell, and (3) homelessness in her district decreased by 49% from 181 in 2025 to 93 in 2026.
This is a lie by omission. What Raman fails to tell voters is that as chair of the Housing and Homelessness Committee, Raman made certain that about 90 unsheltered individuals were forced out of her CD4 into neighboring districts in order to make her look good (181 unsheltered to 93 unsheltered). Overall, under Raman’s chairmanship, homelessness went up by 3.4% (from 43,708 in 2025 to 45,194 in 2026). While Raman was supposed to be reducing homelessness citywide, she used her power to benefit her own CD 4. Notice she does not even claim that they ceased to be homeless; only that they were no longer in her district.
Since Raman lies to her base, what can the average Angeleno expect from her?
