Editor’s Memo: Loves Me, Loves Me Not

February 13 2017
Written by Ken Draper.

CITYWATCH TODAY—For the next few hours it’s all about love. And, expressions thereof. Valentine’s Day, 2017. Slip over to the computer and click on Facebook. It’s all about ‘likes’. In the political world we inhabit it’s a lot about hate … who and how much. It occurs to me that these days there’s very little attention paid to …

R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

And on the few occasions when it is a part of the conversation it is obvious that few of us understand what it is … let alone its importance. Most folks think it’s something owed you … as in ‘stop attacking President Trump … show some respect for the office.’

And I would remind these admonishers: Respect does not result from obligation or law or demand. It has to be e-a-r-n-e-d. Once we’ve recovered that bit of wisdom, then … perhaps … America will be great again.

+++++++++

Speaking of Mr. Trump, James McWilliams looks into why and how the Evangelicals … Christians all … delivered the vote to a sinner. Nika Knight writes about Angelenos taking to the streets to resist the ICE raids and Bob Gelfand sees parallels between Trumpism and Fascism. It’s all in Today’s CityWatch.

Let us know what you think.
