A Great Night for America—and a Warning to Both Parties
FRED TALK - The opinions in this column are solely mine and I stand by them. I did not write yesterday because I wanted to think about the results away from the euphoria that occurred on Tuesday night.
It was an important and great night for America--and not because the Democrats won. It was because Americans stood up for themselves stating unequivocally this is not who we are. We are better than what we have been subjected to. The grift, the name calling, the cruelty, the corruption, the ineptitude of the present Cabinet clown car was more than the vast majority of Americans could stomach. It wasn't one particular act or action--it was a cumulation of a descent into indecency and incompetence that Americans would no longer tolerate. The last snowflake that breaks the branch is never the heaviest-- it's just the last. It's not that the public loves Democrats but they were infuriated by the Republicans they elected who completely abdicated their responsibilities to be loyal subjects--toads-- to the President rather than respect and represent the people who elected them. All of America woke up and spoke up. They voted and they voted and they voted--in droves--in all 50 states----democracy is alive and well.
Nobody would have the nerve to question the results of this election and look at the diversity of the people who won---women, Hispanics, people of color----we are a proud multi-cultural nation and diversity is our strength--not our weakness. We want people we elect in Congress to argue, debate, yell, be passionate, be respectful and then find compromise and govern--not be subject to the whim of some greedy, corrupt, despicable make-believe despot. The only people who have ever dealt with him twice are the American people. We need to take care of each other as we always have---we cannot take away health care from people or let people go hungry so one man's family and friends can enrich themselves. Measles is something we should remember --not something we need to deal with. You cannot fix a broken leg by putting a band aid on it. We need medical professionals in the Department of Health--not quacks or vaccine deniers in office---who have done their best in the last 2 years making America unhealthy. We needed to close our border---but ICE has gone way too far in deciding that Home Depot is like some cave in Tora Bora., Afghanistan. If anyone needs to be deported besides the criminals and felons, it's Stephen Miller who has caused irreparable harm and hurt to so many American families.
There are some additional lessons to be taken away from this election. The DSA received a lot of press but there are only 7 or 8 of the 350 democrats elected to the house. They are not the balance of power and, whether they like it or not, the middle and common sense won this election, and they will have to move and moderate their positions--believe it or not, AOC has already started. I recently watched Megan Romer who is Co-Chair of the DSA on Fox. She lives upstate in NY ( in a treehouse for all I know) and wants to abolish the Senate, the Presidency, the Supreme Court, close the prisons, open the borders, said the October 7 events were inevitable, revels in prejudice and who knows what else--most of which makes little to no sense and will never happen. The DSA, like many fringe movements, is having a moment---and she's full of herself---but she will be relegated to the dung heap of history. This movement will die of its own weight because it's not who we are--and the bigotry it brings with it is simply unacceptable. Sadly, Nithya won for Mayor in LA--but the Mayor has little power and having the job does not grace her with skills she doesn't have. So buckle up---this is not good for LA's future.
Last point relates to El-Sayed--as it turns out, the Dems did not not need Michigan as they will be the majority party in the Senate, and they will soon regret supporting him. He is an unrepentant antisemitic bigot whose prejudice oozes out of his pores and now he will be in the Senate. Read his interview with Ezra Klein in the New York Times. He is very articulate and glib and great at deflecting questions. He has free speech here but not from the country he emigrated from--something he doesn't seem to appreciate or even remember. He will not even acknowledge that Israel has the right to exist using the usual anti-Israel bromides. He conveniently ignores the history of the Palestinian people who have been continually screwed over by their leaders. Bill Clinton, in a recent interview, reminded everyone that Arafat lied to him in 2000. The Palestinians had the opportunity for their own state with East Jerusalem as the capital, but Arafat reneged on his commitment. There hasn't been an election in Gaza or the West Bank since 2005--the residents there are simply pawns of their leaders. Abbas promised the leaders of France and Great Britain that if they recognized Palestine, he would hold elections in 2026. He just postponed those elections--he played them and shock--he lied---surprised--of course not. Hamas' guiding philosophy is to kill Jews wherever they find them--they are not partners for peace and look how they govern their people--there is no freedom of speech or any other individual freedoms there. 2,000,000 Arabs just voted in Israel's last election---how many Jews voted in Arab countries? You could probably count them on one hand. This miserable bigot will be in the Senate. Be careful what you wish for......
All in all--the winners on Tuesday were the American people.
That's all for today
